Tofu:
- 1 block (14 ounces) firm or medium-firm tofu
- ¼ cup cornstarch
For Sauce:
- ½ cup dashi broth
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon mirin
- 1 teaspoon sugar
Garnish:
- 2 green onions (thinly sliced)
- 1 tablespoon grated daikon radish (optional)
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- bonito flakes and nori strips for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Press Tofu: Wrap tofu in a clean towel with a weight on top for 15-20 minutes to remove excess moisture.
- Coat Tofu: Cut tofu into cubes, coat with cornstarch, and shake off excess.
- Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat to 400°F (200°C) for 3 minutes.
- Air Fry Tofu: Place tofu in a single layer, air fry for 10-12 minutes until golden and crispy, flipping halfway.
- Prepare Sauce: Simmer dashi broth, soy sauce, mirin, and sugar in a saucepan.
- Serve: Place tofu in bowls, pour sauce over, and garnish with green onions, daikon, ginger, and bonito flakes/nori. Serve hot.
Notes
- Use store-bought dashi for convenience.
- For a vegetarian version, omit bonito flakes and use kombu dashi.
