Ingredients:
- 1 medium apple (peeled, cored, and finely grated)
- 1 medium carrot (peeled and finely grated)
- 1¾ cups whole wheat flour
- ¼ cup rolled oats
- ¼ cup natural peanut butter (xylitol-free)
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix the ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together the grated apple, grated carrot, flour, oats, peanut butter, egg, and water until a thick dough forms.
- Knead and shape: Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 1–2 minutes. Roll the dough into small log-shaped sticks about ½-inch thick and 4 inches long.
- Bake: Place the sticks on the prepared baking sheet, gently flatten each one slightly, and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until firm and lightly browned.
- Cool and serve: Allow the sticks to cool completely before serving to your dog.
Notes
- Remove apple seeds before grating as they are toxic to dogs.
- Chew sticks are softer than hard bones, ideal for dogs who enjoy chewing without a super crunchy texture.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or freeze for longer storage.
