Description

These Beef Pasties are the ultimate savory pastry, filled with a delicious mixture of ground beef, vegetables, and flavorful seasonings. Wrapped in flaky puff pastry, these hand pies make for a hearty and satisfying meal that’s perfect for lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Filling:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 medium carrot, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

For the Assembly:

  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten for egg wash

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cook the Filling: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion, carrot, and potato, cook for 5-7 minutes until softened. Add ground beef, cook until browned. Stir in peas, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Cook for 3-4 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. Assemble the Pasties: Roll out puff pastry sheets, cut each into 2 squares. Spoon filling onto one half of each square, fold pastry over, crimp edges with a fork to seal.
  4. Bake: Place pasties on baking sheet, brush with beaten egg. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or lamb for the beef.
  • Add a pinch of chili flakes for extra heat or serve with ketchup or brown sauce on the side.
