Description

Indulge in a decadent breakfast treat with this delicious Berry French Toast Casserole. Perfect for lazy weekend mornings or special occasions, this baked French toast is bursting with juicy mixed berries and a hint of cinnamon. Serve with a dusting of powdered sugar and a drizzle of maple syrup for a delightful morning meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Berry French Toast Casserole:

  • 1 loaf (about 16 oz) day-old French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 ½ cups fresh or frozen mixed berries (such as blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries)
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 ½ cups whole milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for greasing)
  • powdered sugar (for serving)
  • maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Grease the baking dish: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Layer bread and berries: Place half of the bread cubes in the dish, add half of the mixed berries, then repeat with the remaining bread and berries.
  3. Prepare the egg mixture: In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt. Pour over the bread and berries.
  4. Chill and bake: Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours. Bake for 45–50 minutes until set and golden. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with maple syrup.

Notes

  • You can substitute French bread with brioche or challah for a richer taste.
  • If using frozen berries, no need to thaw them.
  • Add whipped cream or Greek yogurt for extra decadence.
