Ingredients
Scale
Mascarpone Cream
- 8 oz (225g) mascarpone cheese, softened
- 1 cup (240ml) heavy whipping cream
- ½ cup (60g) powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Berry Mixture
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
- 1 cup fresh raspberries
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Other
- 12-15 ladyfingers (savoiardi)
- ½ cup orange juice or berry juice (for soaking ladyfingers)
Instructions
- Prepare the Berries: In a bowl, combine the sliced strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries with sugar and lemon juice. Toss gently to coat the berries evenly. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes to allow the berries to release their natural juices and soften slightly.
- Make the Mascarpone Cream: In a large bowl, beat the softened mascarpone cheese, heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract together using a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium-high speed. Continue beating until the mixture is smooth, thick, and fluffy.
- Soak the Ladyfingers: Briefly dip each ladyfinger into the orange juice or berry juice. Make sure they are just soaked enough to absorb some liquid without becoming soggy or falling apart.
- Assemble the Trifle: Arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers at the bottom of a trifle dish or individual serving glasses. Spread a layer of the mascarpone cream over the ladyfingers, then add a generous layer of the macerated berry mixture on top of the cream.
- Layer Repetition: Repeat the layering process—ladyfingers, mascarpone cream, berries—until the dish or glasses are filled, ensuring you finish with a layer of mascarpone cream topped with berries for an attractive presentation.
- Chill the Trifle: Cover the assembled trifle with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight. This chilling step allows the flavors to meld beautifully and the dessert to set properly.
- Serve: Remove from the refrigerator and serve the trifle chilled for a refreshing and creamy dessert experience that highlights the fresh berries and smooth mascarpone cream.
Notes
- You can substitute the orange or berry juice used for soaking ladyfingers with coffee or liqueur for a different flavor profile.
- Ensure not to over-soak the ladyfingers to avoid a soggy texture in the dessert.
- For best results, chill the trifle overnight to develop deeper flavors.
- This dessert can be prepared a day ahead, making it perfect for entertaining.
- Use fresh, ripe berries for optimal sweetness and flavor.
