Description

These big, fluffy yeast rolls are a delightful addition to any meal. Soft, buttery, and perfect for soaking up gravy or simply slathering with more butter, these homemade rolls will be a hit at your dinner table.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Rolls:

  • 1 cup warm whole milk (about 110°F)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour

For Brushing:

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of the sugar. Let sit until foamy. Add remaining sugar, butter, egg, and salt. Mix well. Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
  2. Knead the Dough: On a floured surface, knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
  3. Shape and Bake: Divide dough, shape into rolls, place in a baking dish. Let rise again. Bake at 375°F for 15–18 minutes.
  4. Finish: Brush warm rolls with melted butter before serving.

Notes

  • For extra richness, replace half the milk with heavy cream.
  • You can prepare the dough the night before and refrigerate after shaping. Bring to room temperature before baking.
