Description

Learn how to make a delicious Bulgogi Sauce, a classic Korean BBQ Beef Sauce that’s perfect for marinating meat or as a savory glaze. This versatile sauce is a balance of sweet, salty, and umami flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons grated Asian pear (or apple)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon mirin (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, pear, rice vinegar, mirin if using, ginger, and black pepper until sugar is dissolved.
  2. Optional: Stir in sesame seeds if desired.
  3. Marinating: Use immediately as a marinade for thinly sliced beef (marinate at least 30 minutes, preferably 2–4 hours) or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Notes

  • For a thicker sauce to use as a glaze, simmer the mixture in a small saucepan over medium heat for 3–4 minutes until slightly reduced.
