Dough:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups light brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Topping:
- 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
- Flaky sea salt for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- Mix dough: Cream butter and brown sugar, add eggs and vanilla. Combine dry ingredients separately and mix into wet ingredients. Fold in chocolate chips.
- Layer and bake: Spread two-thirds of the dough in the pan, top with caramel sauce and pecans, then drop spoonfuls of remaining dough over. Bake for 25–30 minutes.
- Cool and serve: Let cool completely before cutting into bars. Optionally, sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
