Ingredients
Scale
Flatbreads
- 2 large flatbreads or naan
Caramelized Onions
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
Toppings
- 1 cup crumbled feta cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- Optional: red pepper flakes for garnish
Instructions
- Caramelize Onions: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-low heat. Add the thinly sliced onions along with salt and black pepper. Cook slowly for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure even caramelization, until the onions are soft, golden, and richly caramelized. Stir in the balsamic vinegar and cook for another 1-2 minutes to deepen the flavor.
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Flatbreads: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). While the oven is heating, place the flatbreads on a baking sheet to prepare for topping.
- Assemble Flatbreads: Evenly spread the caramelized onions over the surface of each flatbread. Sprinkle the crumbled feta cheese generously on top of the onions.
- Bake: Bake the assembled flatbreads in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until they are warmed through and the feta cheese turns slightly golden and bubbly.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove the flatbreads from the oven. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and, if desired, sprinkle with red pepper flakes for a touch of heat. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Feel free to add toppings like arugula, olives, or sun-dried tomatoes to enhance the flavor profile.
- For a crispier flatbread, lightly toast the flatbreads before adding the caramelized onions and toppings.
