- 3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for dusting)
Chai Spice Filling:
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
Glaze:
- 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1–2 tablespoons milk (as needed for consistency)
Instructions
- Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Add sugar, melted butter, eggs, and salt. Gradually mix in flour until a soft dough forms. Knead for 5–7 minutes. Let rise for 1 hour.
- Chai Spice Filling: Mix brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, and black pepper. Roll out dough, spread softened butter, sprinkle chai-spice sugar mixture, roll into a log, cut into rolls, place in a baking dish, let rise, then bake.
- Glaze: Beat together cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk. Spread over warm rolls.
Notes
- For a stronger chai flavor, steep 1 chai tea bag in the warm milk before adding the yeast.
- These rolls can be made ahead and refrigerated overnight before baking.
