Main Ingredients:
- 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs (or breasts)
Marinade:
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon Chinese Shaoxing wine (or dry sherry)
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1–2 drops red food coloring (optional, for traditional color)
Instructions
- Marinate the Chicken: In a large bowl, whisk together hoisin sauce, honey, soy sauce, oyster sauce, Shaoxing wine, sesame oil, five-spice powder, ginger, garlic, and red food coloring. Add chicken and coat well. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
- Cook the Chicken: Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top. Arrange marinated chicken on the rack. Roast for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway through and basting with marinade. Broil on high for 2–3 minutes for a caramelized finish.
- Serve: Let rest before slicing. Serve with steamed rice, noodles, or stir-fried vegetables.
