For the Sloppy Joes:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion (finely chopped)
- 1/2 green bell pepper (chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
For serving:
- 4 hamburger buns (toasted)
- Additional cheese slices for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil: In a large skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil. Add onion and bell pepper and cook until softened.
- Cook beef: Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess grease.
- Add seasonings: Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes.
- Add cheese: Turn off heat and stir in shredded cheddar until melted.
- Assemble: Spoon mixture onto toasted buns, top with optional cheese slice, and serve warm.
