Description

These Cheesy Sloppy Joes are a delicious twist on the classic sandwich, with a gooey cheddar cheese topping adding extra flavor. Perfect for a quick and satisfying weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Sloppy Joes:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 green bell pepper (chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

For serving:

  • 4 hamburger buns (toasted)
  • Additional cheese slices for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil: In a large skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil. Add onion and bell pepper and cook until softened.
  2. Cook beef: Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess grease.
  3. Add seasonings: Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes.
  4. Add cheese: Turn off heat and stir in shredded cheddar until melted.
  5. Assemble: Spoon mixture onto toasted buns, top with optional cheese slice, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version.
  • Add hot sauce or red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
  • Try them on slider buns for party appetizers.
