Description

A classic and comforting chicken dish, Chicken Cordon Bleu features tender chicken breasts rolled with ham and Swiss cheese, coated in breadcrumbs, and baked to perfection. This easy recipe is a crowd-pleaser and perfect for a family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

Filling:

  • 4 slices deli ham
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese

Breading:

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs (beaten)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)

Seasoning:

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Coating:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter (for drizzling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Pound the chicken: Place the chicken breasts between two sheets of plastic wrap and pound to about ¼ inch thickness.
  3. Season and fill: Season both sides of the chicken with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Layer each chicken breast with one slice of ham and one slice of Swiss cheese, then roll tightly and secure with toothpicks.
  4. Bread the chicken: Dredge each roll first in flour, then dip in beaten egg, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
  5. Bake: Place the breaded chicken rolls seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Drizzle lightly with olive oil or melted butter. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through and the coating is golden and crispy.
  6. Serve: Remove toothpicks before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, use seasoned breadcrumbs or add Dijon mustard inside the roll with the ham and cheese.
  • Serve with a side of mashed potatoes, green beans, or a light salad.
