Description

Indulge in the comforting flavors of tender chicken smothered in a rich, creamy gravy served on a bed of velvety mashed potatoes. This classic dish is a perfect blend of savory goodness and is sure to become a family favorite.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Gravy:

  • 2 cups cooked and shredded or diced chicken
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups chicken broth (preferably low sodium)
  • 1/2 cup milk or heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For Serving:

  • 4 cups mashed potatoes (prepared in advance or store-bought)
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Making the Gravy: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until lightly golden and bubbling. Slowly pour in the chicken broth while whisking continuously to prevent lumps.
  2. Add the milk, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 4 to 5 minutes, or until the gravy thickens.
  3. Stir in the cooked chicken and reduce heat to low, letting it warm through for about 2 minutes. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  4. Serving: Spoon the hot chicken gravy generously over warm mashed potatoes and garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, use pan drippings from roasted chicken in place of some of the butter or broth.
  • You can also add sautéed mushrooms or peas to the gravy for a heartier meal.
