- 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients listed on box)
For the Topping:
- 11-ounce bag caramels (unwrapped)
- 1/2 cup evaporated milk (divided)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped pecans
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Prepare the chocolate cake batter as per box instructions.
- Bake First Layer: Pour half of the batter into the dish and bake for 15 minutes.
- Prepare Caramel: Melt caramels with 1/4 cup of evaporated milk until smooth.
- Layer Ingredients: Pour caramel mixture over the baked cake, top with pecans and chocolate chips. Add remaining batter on top.
- Bake Again: Bake for another 20–25 minutes until a toothpick comes out mostly clean.
- Cool and Serve: Let the cake cool slightly before serving.
