Description

This Classic Tuna Salad Sandwich recipe is a delicious and satisfying lunch option that is quick and easy to make. Creamy tuna salad with crunchy celery and onion is layered between slices of bread for a classic deli-style sandwich.

Ingredients

Scale

Tuna Salad:

  • 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna in water, drained
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped celery
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped red onion
  • 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Assembly:

  • 4 slices sandwich bread (white, wheat, or your choice)
  • Lettuce leaves and tomato slices for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, prepare the tuna salad: Combine drained tuna, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, celery, red onion, and relish if using. Mix well and season with salt and pepper.
  2. Toast the bread: Toast the bread slices if desired.
  3. Assemble the sandwiches: Spread the tuna mixture over two bread slices. Top with lettuce and tomato, if desired, then close with the remaining bread slices. Slice in half and serve.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, substitute Greek yogurt for some or all of the mayonnaise.
  • Enhance flavor with a dash of lemon juice or hot sauce.
  • Tuna salad can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
