  • 1/4 cup strong brewed coffee
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg

For the filling:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons instant espresso powder
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

For the icing:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons strong brewed coffee
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, mix 2 1/2 cups of the flour with sugar, yeast, and salt. Warm the milk and coffee, then add to the dry ingredients along with butter and egg. Knead until smooth, then let rise.
  2. Make the filling: Mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and espresso powder. Roll out the dough, spread butter, sprinkle filling, roll into a log, and slice into rolls.
  3. Bake: Place rolls in a baking dish, let rise, then bake at 350°F for 20–25 minutes.
  4. Prepare the icing: Whisk together powdered sugar, coffee, vanilla, and salt. Drizzle over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

  • You can prepare the rolls the night before and refrigerate them overnight after placing them in the baking dish. Let them come to room temperature before baking.
