- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1/2 cup dried cranberries
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 2/3 cup heavy cream
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Topping:
- 1 tablespoon coarse sugar for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add Flavor: Stir in cranberries and orange zest.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk cream, egg, and vanilla. Pour into dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Shape and Bake: Turn dough onto floured surface, knead lightly, pat into a circle, cut into wedges. Place on baking sheet, brush with cream, sprinkle sugar, and bake for 15-18 minutes until golden.
- Cool and Serve: Let scones cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For added sweetness, glaze scones with an orange glaze made from powdered sugar and fresh orange juice.
- If using fresh cranberries, coat them lightly in flour to prevent sinking in the dough.
