Chocolate Lava Cake Ingredients
- 6 Tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces
- 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate bar, broken into pieces
- 1 large egg
- 1 egg yolk from a large egg
- 3 Tablespoons white sugar
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Prep Ramekins: Grease 3 six-ounce ramekins thoroughly with butter or nonstick spray to ensure easy removal of the cakes after cooking. Set them aside.
- Melt Chocolate: Combine the butter and semi-sweet chocolate pieces in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for about 1 minute, stirring every 30 seconds until completely melted and smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
- Prepare Batter: In a separate large mixing bowl, beat together the large egg, egg yolk, vanilla extract, and white sugar until the mixture is light and slightly thickened. Gently fold in the all-purpose flour, melted chocolate mixture, and a pinch of salt until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Fill Ramekins: Pour the batter into the prepared ramekins, filling each about halfway to allow room for the lava center to form as it cooks.
- Air Fry: Place the ramekins into the air fryer basket. Cook at 370°F (188°C) for 8 to 10 minutes. The edges should be set while the centers remain soft and molten.
- Cool and Serve: Carefully remove the ramekins from the air fryer. Let them cool for 1 minute to allow the cakes to set slightly. Then, invert each ramekin onto a serving plate to release the cake. Serve immediately with whipped cream, fresh berries, or a dusting of powdered sugar for a luxurious finish.
Notes
- Make sure not to overcook the cakes in the air fryer to preserve the molten center.
- Use good quality semi-sweet chocolate for the best flavor and texture.
- Ramekins should be greased well to prevent sticking when unmolding.
- Serve immediately after cooking for best texture; the lava center thickens as it cools.
- Optional garnishes include whipped cream, fresh berries, or powdered sugar.
