- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 small onion (finely chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
- ½ cup milk
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Additions:
- 4 cups cooked green beans (fresh or frozen)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
- 1 cup French fried onions (divided)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Sauté Onion and Garlic: In a skillet, melt butter and sauté onion until soft. Add garlic and cook briefly.
- Prepare Creamy Sauce: Lower heat, add cream cheese and milk, whisk until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
- Combine with Green Beans: Add cooked green beans to the skillet, coat in sauce. Add cheddar if desired.
- Bake: Transfer to baking dish, top with ½ cup fried onions. Bake for 20 minutes, then add remaining onions and bake until golden.
- Serve: Serve warm.
Notes
- You can prepare this casserole ahead and refrigerate before baking. Adjust baking time accordingly.
- For added variety, mix in wax beans with the green beans.
