Potatoes:
- 3 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
Additional Ingredients:
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed
- 1/2 cup heavy cream, warmed
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Chopped fresh chives or parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare Potatoes: Place the peeled and chopped potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a generous pinch of salt.
- Cook Potatoes: Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
- Drain and Mash: Drain the potatoes well and return them to the pot. Add the butter and mash the potatoes until mostly smooth.
- Add Creamy Ingredients: Gradually add the warmed milk and heavy cream, stirring until the potatoes are creamy and smooth.
- Season and Serve: Season with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Transfer to a serving bowl and top with chopped chives or parsley if desired. Serve warm.
Notes
- For extra flavor, substitute roasted garlic for garlic powder.
- You can keep the mashed potatoes warm by placing the pot over very low heat and covering until ready to serve.
