- 1 tbsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
Wet Ingredients:
- ½ cup unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
- ¾ cup buttermilk (cold)
- 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
- Add Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter and cut it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the cold buttermilk. Stir gently until the dough just comes together.
- Shape the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle, and fold it in half. Repeat this folding process 2–3 times.
- Cut Biscuits: Cut biscuits using a 2½-inch round cutter and place them on the baking sheet.
- Bake: Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
- Finish: Remove from the oven, brush the tops with melted butter, and serve warm.
Notes
- Use very cold butter and buttermilk for the flakiest biscuits.
- If you don’t have buttermilk, create a substitute with milk and lemon juice or vinegar.
- Avoid twisting the biscuit cutter to ensure even rising.
