Description

Learn how to make irresistibly fluffy homemade biscuits that are perfect for any meal. These biscuits are tender, flaky, and buttery, with a golden crust that is simply divine. Serve them warm with a pat of butter or your favorite jam for a delightful treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar

Wet Ingredients:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
  • ¾ cup buttermilk (cold)
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
  3. Add Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter and cut it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Combine Wet Ingredients: Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the cold buttermilk. Stir gently until the dough just comes together.
  5. Shape the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle, and fold it in half. Repeat this folding process 2–3 times.
  6. Cut Biscuits: Cut biscuits using a 2½-inch round cutter and place them on the baking sheet.
  7. Bake: Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Finish: Remove from the oven, brush the tops with melted butter, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use very cold butter and buttermilk for the flakiest biscuits.
  • If you don’t have buttermilk, create a substitute with milk and lemon juice or vinegar.
  • Avoid twisting the biscuit cutter to ensure even rising.
