Description

These French Onion Beef Roll-Ups are a delicious and savory main course that combines thinly sliced beef with caramelized onions, balsamic vinegar, and Gruyère cheese, all rolled up and baked to perfection.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef:

  • 1 1/2 pounds thinly sliced beef sirloin or flank steak

Caramelized Onions:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

Roll-Ups:

  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. Caramelize Onions: In a skillet, cook onions in olive oil and butter until golden and caramelized. Add thyme, balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper.
  2. Prepare Beef: Lay beef slices flat, sprinkle with garlic powder, add caramelized onions and cheese to one end of each slice. Roll up tightly.
  3. Bake: Place roll-ups seam-side down on a baking sheet. Bake at 375°F for 15-18 minutes until cooked through and cheese is melted. Garnish with parsley.

Notes

  • For added flavor, deglaze the onion pan with 1/4 cup beef broth or red wine.
  • Pair with mashed potatoes or a green salad.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in the oven at 325°F until warmed through.
