Bread Pudding:
- 6 cups day-old bread (cubed, preferably French or brioche)
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 4 large eggs
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup raisins (optional)
- 1 tablespoon butter (for greasing pan)
Optional Sauce:
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
- Prepare the custard: In a large bowl, whisk together milk, heavy cream, eggs, sugars, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add cubed bread and raisins, if using. Allow to soak for 10–15 minutes.
- Bake: Pour the mixture into the baking dish and bake for 45–50 minutes until golden and set.
- Make the sauce: Melt butter in a saucepan, add sugar and cream, cook until thickened. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla.
- Serve: Serve warm bread pudding with sauce drizzled on top.
