  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)

For the mashed potatoes:

  • 2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup milk (more if needed)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Mashed Potatoes: Place potatoes in a large pot, cover with cold water, add salt, boil for 15–20 minutes, drain, mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  2. Beef and Gravy: In a skillet, cook ground beef and onion until browned, add garlic, sprinkle flour, pour in beef broth, add Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and thyme. Simmer until thickened.
  3. Serve beef and gravy over mashed potatoes.
