Description

These Hawaiian Steak Kebabs feature tender sirloin steak marinated in a savory-sweet blend of soy sauce, honey, garlic, and ginger, paired with fresh pineapple, bell peppers, and red onion. Grilled to perfection, these skewers deliver a balanced mix of smoky, sweet, and savory flavors, making them a perfect main course for summertime cookouts or a delightful dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Kebabs

  • 1 1/2 pounds sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 cup fresh pineapple chunks
  • 1 red bell pepper, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 green bell pepper, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 small red onion, cut into wedges

For the Marinade

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Wooden or metal skewers (if wooden, soaked in water for 30 minutes prior to grilling)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, olive oil, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, and black pepper until well combined to create the flavorful marinade.
  2. Marinate the Steak: Add the sirloin steak cubes into the marinade, tossing to coat evenly. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat.
  3. Preheat the Grill: Heat your grill to medium-high heat. If using wooden skewers, ensure they have been soaked in water for at least 30 minutes to prevent burning during cooking.
  4. Assemble the Kebabs: Thread the marinated steak cubes, pineapple chunks, red and green bell pepper pieces, and red onion wedges onto the skewers, alternating ingredients to evenly distribute flavor and texture.
  5. Grill the Kebabs: Place the skewers on the hot grill and cook for 8 to 12 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking. Grill until the steak reaches your desired level of doneness and the vegetables are lightly charred.
  6. Rest and Serve: Remove the kebabs from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes to retain juices before serving. Optionally, brush with remaining marinade during grilling for extra flavor.

Notes

  • For additional flavor, brush kebabs with leftover marinade periodically while grilling.
  • These kebabs can also be baked in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for 12 to 15 minutes, turning halfway through cooking.
  • Serve the kebabs with steamed rice or a fresh green salad for a complete meal.
  • If using wooden skewers, always soak them in water before grilling to prevent burning.
