Ingredients
Scale
Shrimp and Seasoning
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined with tails on
- 1 tablespoon all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
Sauce and Garnish
- 10 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
- Prepare the shrimp seasoning: Pat the shrimp dry using paper towels. Place in a bowl and sprinkle the flour, paprika, salt, and black pepper over the shrimp. Toss well to coat each shrimp evenly with the seasoning mixture.
- Heat the butter and oil: In a large skillet, combine olive oil and unsalted butter. Heat over medium until the butter is melted and the mixture is hot but not smoking.
- Sauté the garlic: Add the minced garlic to the skillet. Cook and stir constantly for about 30 seconds until the garlic becomes fragrant but does not brown or burn.
- Cook the shrimp: Place the shrimp in a single layer in the skillet. Cook for about 2 minutes on one side without moving them to achieve a nice sear.
- Flip and finish cooking: Turn the shrimp over and cook for an additional 2 minutes until they turn pink and are just cooked through.
- Add heat and sauce: Sprinkle crushed red pepper flakes into the skillet. Add water and lemon juice to create a light garlic butter sauce. Toss the shrimp gently in this sauce for about 30 seconds to coat.
- Garnish and serve: Remove the skillet from heat and sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the shrimp. Serve immediately, ideally with steamed white rice and lemon wedges.
Notes
- This dish is inspired by the famous garlic shrimp served on Hawaiian shrimp trucks.
- Serve with steamed white rice and lemon wedges for a traditional Hawaiian plate lunch experience.
- Adjust crushed red pepper flakes as needed for milder or spicier flavor preferences.
- Use fresh shrimp for best results and optimal flavor.
