Scale
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons white sesame seeds (dry roasted)
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup tomato sauce or ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon hot mustard (optional)
Instructions
- Dry Roast Sesame Seeds: Place the white sesame seeds in a dry pan over low heat. Toast them carefully, stirring frequently, until they are golden brown and fragrant, which should take a few minutes.
- Grind Seeds: Once toasted, transfer the sesame seeds to a suribachi (Japanese mortar) or any mortar and pestle. Grind them finely to release their oils and aroma.
- Mix Sauce Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground sesame seeds with soy sauce, tomato sauce or ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, and hot mustard if using. Stir the mixture thoroughly until the sugar dissolves and the sauce is smooth and well blended.
Notes
- You can adjust the sweetness by increasing or decreasing the sugar amount according to taste.
- For a spicier kick, add more hot mustard or a dash of chili powder.
- This sauce is perfect not only for Tonkatsu but also as a dipping sauce for fried foods, grilled meats, or vegetables.
- Store the sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
