Description

Homemade Twix Bars combine a buttery shortbread base, rich caramel layer, and a smooth chocolate topping. This delightful treat is easy to make at home and perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth with a classic candy bar flavor in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Shortbread Base

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

Caramel Layer

  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Chocolate Topping

  • 1 1/2 cups milk chocolate chips (or dark chocolate, if preferred)
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Shortbread: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
  2. Make the Shortbread Base: In a bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and softened butter until a crumbly dough forms. Press this mixture evenly into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 15-18 minutes until the shortbread is lightly golden. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely.
  3. Prepare the Caramel Layer: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine sweetened condensed milk, brown sugar, unsalted butter, and light corn syrup. Stir continuously for 8-10 minutes until the mixture thickens and turns golden. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Add Caramel Layer: Pour the caramel over the cooled shortbread layer, spreading it evenly with a spatula. Allow it to set for 20-30 minutes until firm and stable.
  5. Melt the Chocolate: Place the chocolate chips and vegetable oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring thoroughly after each, until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth.
  6. Add Chocolate Layer: Pour the melted chocolate over the set caramel layer and spread evenly. Let it set at room temperature or refrigerate until the chocolate is firm.
  7. Slice and Serve: Once the chocolate has set, lift the entire block out of the pan using the parchment paper edges. Slice into individual bars and enjoy your homemade Twix treats!

Notes

  • Allow the shortbread base to cool completely before adding caramel to prevent melting and mixing layers.
  • Continuous stirring during caramel cooking is essential to avoid burning.
  • Use parchment paper for easy removal and neat slicing of bars.
  • You can substitute milk chocolate chips with dark chocolate for a richer flavor.
  • Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature or refrigerate for longer freshness.
