Description

This Homestyle Apple Pie Bread is a delightful treat that combines the flavors of a classic apple pie with the convenience of a quick bread. Moist and full of apple chunks, this bread is perfect for breakfast or as a snack with a cup of tea.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Wet Ingredients:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Additional Ingredients:

  • 1½ cups peeled and finely chopped apples (like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • For the Cinnamon Sugar Topping:
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add Wet Ingredients: Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the sour cream and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Combine and Bake: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Fold in the chopped apples and nuts, if using. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar topping, and bake for 55–65 minutes.
  6. Cool and Serve: Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • This bread tastes even better the next day as the apple flavor intensifies.
  • You can freeze slices individually for quick breakfasts.
  • For extra sweetness, drizzle with a simple vanilla glaze or serve warm with butter.
