Ingredients

Scale

Chicken:

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts (cut into sandwich-sized pieces)
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Breading:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

Other:

  • vegetable oil for frying
  • 6 buttermilk biscuits (homemade or store-bought)
  • ¼ cup butter (melted)
  • Hot Honey Sauce:

    • ¼ cup honey
    • 1–2 tsp hot sauce (to taste)
    • ½ tsp red pepper flakes
    • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Chicken: Place the chicken in a bowl, cover with buttermilk, and marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Breading: Mix flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne in a shallow dish. Dredge marinated chicken in the mixture.
  3. Fry the Chicken: Fry coated chicken in oil until golden brown and cooked through, about 4–5 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
  4. Make the Hot Honey Sauce: Combine honey, hot sauce, red pepper flakes, and vinegar in a saucepan. Warm and stir until smooth.
  5. Finish and Serve: Brush fried chicken with melted butter, drizzle with hot honey sauce, and assemble sandwiches with biscuits.

Notes

  • Adjust the heat level of the honey sauce to taste.
  • For a quicker option, use frozen breaded chicken tenders and store-bought biscuits.
  • Pair with pickles or coleslaw for a tasty side.
