Ingredients
Scale
Meat Mixture
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 lb pork sausage
- 1 cup chopped pepperoni
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- 4 tsp Italian seasoning, divided
- 1 (26-oz) jar tomato basil pasta sauce
Cheeses
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 3 Tbsp grated parmesan cheese
Crust and Toppings
- 1 (13.8-oz) can refrigerated pizza crust dough
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425º F (220º C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Cook Meats: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and pork sausage until no longer pink, breaking them up as they cook. Drain excess fat to keep the casserole from getting greasy.
- Add Pepperoni and Seasoning: Stir in the chopped pepperoni, flour, and 3 teaspoons of Italian seasoning into the skillet with the cooked meats. Mix well to combine all ingredients evenly.
- Add Sauce and Simmer: Pour the jar of tomato basil pasta sauce into the skillet, stirring until blended. Bring the mixture to a boil, then immediately remove from heat to prevent overcooking.
- Assemble Casserole: Spoon the meat and sauce mixture evenly into the prepared baking pan. Sprinkle the 2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the meat layer.
- Prepare the Crust: Unroll the refrigerated pizza crust dough and carefully place it over the cheese layer, covering the casserole completely.
- Top Crust: Brush the pizza crust surface with olive oil, then sprinkle the remaining 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, additional mozzarella cheese if desired, and grated parmesan cheese on top for a flavorful crust.
- Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese topping is bubbly and slightly browned.
Notes
- Make sure to drain excess fat from the cooked meats to keep the casserole from becoming greasy.
- You can add extra mozzarella cheese on top of the crust for an extra cheesy crust layer.
- Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes after baking before serving to allow it to set for easier slicing.
- Feel free to customize with additional pizza toppings like mushrooms, bell peppers, or onions if desired.
- Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat thoroughly before serving.
