Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1/4 cup white onion (finely diced)
- 1–2 jalapeños (seeded and finely chopped)
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 pound white American cheese (shredded or cubed)
- 1/4 cup Monterey Jack cheese (shredded)
Seasonings:
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin
- Salt to taste
Garnish:
- Chopped cilantro or tomatoes for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Sauté Aromatics: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add diced onion and jalapeños and sauté for 2–3 minutes until softened.
- Make Cheese Sauce: Stir in the milk and heavy cream and bring just to a gentle simmer. Reduce heat to low and gradually stir in the white American cheese and Monterey Jack cheese, a handful at a time, stirring constantly until melted and smooth.
- Season and Serve: Add garlic powder, cumin, and salt to taste. Keep warm over low heat, stirring occasionally, until ready to serve.
Notes
- Use deli-sliced white American cheese for the smoothest melt.
- For a thinner dip, add a splash more milk.
- Serve warm with tortilla chips, over nachos, or drizzled on tacos or burritos.
- Reheat gently over low heat or in the microwave, stirring frequently.
