Description

This Mexican White Cheese Dip is a creamy and flavorful appetizer featuring melted white American cheese blended with spices, milk, and optional heat from jalapeño. Perfect for serving with tortilla chips or fresh veggies, this dip combines smooth texture with a spicy kick and a hint of freshness from cilantro garnish.

Ingredients

Scale

Cheese Base

  • 1 lb (450 g) white American cheese (shredded or cubed) or substitute with white cheddar, Monterey Jack, or queso blanco
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) whole milk (or half & half for extra creaminess)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) heavy cream (optional, for ultra-smooth texture)

Spices and Flavorings

  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 small can (4 oz / 110 g) diced green chilies (optional, for extra flavor)

Optional Add-ins

  • 1 small jalapeño (finely diced, optional for spice)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (optional, for richness)
  • 1–2 tablespoons chopped cilantro (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Melt the Cheese Base: In a medium saucepan, combine the shredded white American cheese, whole milk, and heavy cream (if using). Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until the cheese melts completely and the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  2. Add Spices and Flavor: Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, and salt. Taste the dip and adjust the seasoning if needed. Add the diced green chilies now for an extra layer of flavor if using.
  3. Add Heat (Optional): Incorporate the finely diced jalapeño into the melted cheese mixture, adjusting the amount depending on your preferred spice level.
  4. Add Butter (Optional): For a richer, creamier texture, stir in the tablespoon of butter and allow it to melt fully into the dip.
  5. Serve: Once the dip is smooth, creamy, and heated through, remove it from the heat. Serve immediately alongside tortilla chips, fresh vegetables, or your favorite dippers.
  6. Garnish (Optional): Just before serving, sprinkle the dip with freshly chopped cilantro to add a bright, fresh flavor and appealing color.

Notes

  • Use white cheddar or Monterey Jack as excellent alternatives if you can’t find white American cheese.
  • For extra creaminess, use half & half instead of whole milk and add heavy cream.
  • Adjust the quantity of jalapeño according to your preferred heat level or omit entirely for a milder dip.
  • Serve immediately for best texture; reheating may cause the cheese to become less smooth.
  • This dip pairs perfectly with tortilla chips, sliced veggies, or even as a topping on tacos and nachos.
