- ½ cup powdered sugar (plus more for rolling)
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup finely chopped peppermint candies or candy canes
- ½ cup finely chopped walnuts or pecans
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in the peppermint extract.
- Add dry ingredients: Gradually add the flour and salt, stirring until just combined. Fold in the chopped peppermint candies and nuts.
- Shape and bake: Scoop out tablespoon-sized portions and roll into balls, placing them 1 inch apart on the baking sheet. Bake for 12–14 minutes or until the bottoms are lightly golden.
- Finish with sugar: Let cool for 5 minutes, then roll warm cookies in additional powdered sugar. Once completely cooled, roll again in powdered sugar for a snowy finish.
