Description

These Mummy Cupcakes are a spooky and fun Halloween treat featuring moist vanilla or chocolate cupcakes decorated with creamy vanilla buttercream and drizzled white chocolate to create a mummy bandage effect, complete with candy eyes for an eerie finish. Perfect for parties and a delightful way to celebrate the season with kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale

Cupcake Batter

  • 1 box vanilla or chocolate cake mix plus ingredients listed on the box (such as eggs, oil, and water)

Frosting

  • 2 cups vanilla buttercream frosting

Decoration

  • 1 cup white chocolate chips or white candy melts
  • 24 candy eyes
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (optional, for thinning melted chocolate)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cupcake Batter: Follow the package instructions for the cake mix to prepare the batter, including adding eggs, oil, and water as required. Divide the batter evenly into a lined muffin pan.
  2. Bake Cupcakes: Bake the cupcakes according to the cake mix directions, typically about 18 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow cupcakes to cool completely before decorating.
  3. Melt White Chocolate: Place the white chocolate chips or candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring thoroughly each time until melted and smooth. If the chocolate is too thick for drizzling, add a small amount of vegetable oil to thin it out.
  4. Create Mummy Bandages: Transfer the melted white chocolate into a piping bag or a small plastic bag with a tiny corner snipped off. Pipe thin lines back and forth across each cupcake to mimic mummy bandages.
  5. Add Candy Eyes: Before the chocolate sets fully, place two candy eyes on each cupcake so they adhere to the chocolate. Allow the white chocolate to harden completely before serving.

Notes

  • For a creamier base, lightly frost the cupcakes with vanilla buttercream before piping the white chocolate lines.
  • Chocolate cupcakes can be used instead of vanilla for a contrasting look beneath the white mummy bandages.
  • These cupcakes make an excellent festive treat for Halloween parties and are very kid-friendly.
