- 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and halved
- 1 package (14 ounces) refrigerated pie crusts (2 crusts)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into 8 pieces
For the Syrup:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven and prepare dish: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Prepare dough: Roll out pie crusts and cut into squares. Mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Assemble dumplings: Place apple halves on squares, fill with sugar mixture, top with butter, and seal the dough.
- Make syrup: In a saucepan, combine granulated sugar, water, butter, and vanilla. Boil and pour over dumplings.
- Bake: Bake for 35–40 minutes, basting occasionally, until golden and tender.
- Serve: Spoon syrup over dumplings and serve warm.
Notes
