For the steaks:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil for frying
For the gravy:
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the steaks: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Form into 4 oval patties.
- Cook the steaks: Heat olive oil in a skillet, cook patties for 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Transfer to a plate.
- Make the gravy: In the same skillet, sauté mushrooms, onions, and garlic. Add flour, then slowly whisk in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer until thickened.
- Finish the dish: Return patties to the skillet, cover with gravy, and simmer for 10 minutes. Serve hot over mashed potatoes or rice.
Notes
- Ground turkey or chicken can be substituted for beef.
- For extra richness, add a splash of red wine to the gravy.
