Description

This Sugar-Free BBQ Sauce recipe is a healthier alternative to traditional BBQ sauces without compromising on flavor. It’s easy to make and perfect for those looking to reduce sugar and carb intake.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Sugar-Free BBQ Sauce:

  • 1 cup tomato sauce (no sugar added)
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (sugar-free if available)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons apple juice (unsweetened)
  • 2 tablespoons liquid smoke
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, whisk together tomato sauce, vinegar, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, apple juice, and liquid smoke until smooth.
  2. Stir in olive oil, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, chili powder, black pepper, salt, and cayenne if using.
  3. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer and cook for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and flavors are well combined.
  4. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
  5. Allow to cool before storing in a glass jar or airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

  • For a sweeter flavor without sugar, add a few drops of liquid stevia or monk fruit sweetener.
  • Adjust thickness by simmering longer for a thicker sauce or adding a splash of water for a thinner consistency.
