Ingredients
Scale
Protein and Sauce
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 lb ground turkey (lean or extra lean)
- 1/3 cup sweet chili sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 to 4 teaspoons Sriracha (adjust to taste)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
- 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
Vegetables and Rice
- 12 oz broccoli florets, cut into bite-size pieces
- 3 cups cooked brown rice (or rice of your choice)
Garnishes
- Sesame seeds
- Green onions, sliced
- Extra Sriracha sauce (optional)
- Extra sweet chili sauce (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the Ground Turkey: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground turkey and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until it is fully cooked through and no longer pink, about 6-8 minutes.
- Prepare the Sauce: While the turkey cooks, whisk together the sweet chili sauce, honey, Sriracha, soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, garlic powder, and freshly grated ginger in a bowl or glass measuring cup until well combined.
- Cook the Turkey with Sauce: Pour the prepared sauce over the cooked ground turkey in the skillet. Reduce the heat to medium and let it simmer, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the turkey evenly, about 3-5 minutes. Season with salt to taste.
- Steam the Broccoli: While the turkey simmers, steam the broccoli florets until just tender, about 4-5 minutes. Avoid overcooking to retain texture and nutrients.
- Assemble the Bowls: Divide the cooked brown rice evenly among 4 bowls. Top each bowl with a generous portion of the saucy ground turkey and steamed broccoli.
- Garnish: Sprinkle sesame seeds and sliced green onions on top. Add extra sweet chili sauce and/or Sriracha according to your preferred heat level and flavor.
Notes
- Adjust the amount of Sriracha to control the spiciness of the dish.
- For a gluten-free version, use tamari or gluten-free soy sauce.
- Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to 3 days.
- Substitute brown rice with quinoa or cauliflower rice for a different grain option.
- Ensure the ground turkey is cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) for food safety.
