Ingredients
Scale
Bread:
- 8 slices of bread (sourdough or sandwich bread)
Taco Meat:
- 1/2 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
- 1/4 cup water
Cheese and Toppings:
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
- 1/4 cup diced tomatoes
- 1/4 cup sliced jalapeños (optional)
- 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro (optional)
Additional:
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
Instructions
- Cook the Ground Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, about 5–7 minutes. Drain excess grease if needed, then stir in taco seasoning and water. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat.
- Assemble the Sandwiches: Butter one side of each bread slice. On the unbuttered side, layer cheddar cheese, taco meat, tomatoes, jalapeños (if using), Monterey Jack cheese, and cilantro. Top with another slice of bread, buttered side out.
- Grill the Sandwiches: Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and cook each sandwich for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted. Slice and serve hot.
Notes
- Serve with sour cream, guacamole, or salsa for dipping.
- You can substitute ground turkey or black beans for a lighter or vegetarian version.
- Add crushed tortilla chips inside for extra crunch.
