Ingredients
Apples:
6 pounds apples (such as Fuji, Gala, or McIntosh), peeled, cored, and chopped
Sugar Mixture:
2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
Vanilla Extract:
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare Apples: Place the chopped apples in a large slow cooker.
- Cook: Cover and cook on low for 10 hours, stirring occasionally, until the apples are very soft and dark brown.
- Flavor: Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Store: Spoon the apple butter into sterilized jars and let cool completely before sealing and refrigerating.
Add the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt. Stir until the apples are evenly coated.
Remove the lid and use an immersion blender to puree the apple mixture until smooth (or transfer in batches to a regular blender).
Continue cooking uncovered on low for another 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally, until the apple butter is thick and spreadable.

- Store apple butter in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze for longer storage.
