Description

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup heavy cream

For the chocolate buttercream frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. Prepare cake batter: Whisk together dry ingredients, add wet ingredients, and mix until smooth. Fold in boiling water and chocolate chips. Divide batter and bake.
  3. Make ganache: Heat cream, pour over chocolate chips, stir until smooth.
  4. Prepare frosting: Beat butter, add cocoa, sugar, cream, vanilla, and salt. Beat until fluffy.
  5. Assemble: Spread ganache between cake layers, frost the cake with chocolate buttercream. Chill before slicing.
