For the chocolate ganache filling:
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup heavy cream
For the chocolate buttercream frosting:
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- ¼ cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
- Prepare cake batter: Whisk together dry ingredients, add wet ingredients, and mix until smooth. Fold in boiling water and chocolate chips. Divide batter and bake.
- Make ganache: Heat cream, pour over chocolate chips, stir until smooth.
- Prepare frosting: Beat butter, add cocoa, sugar, cream, vanilla, and salt. Beat until fluffy.
- Assemble: Spread ganache between cake layers, frost the cake with chocolate buttercream. Chill before slicing.
