  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F: Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans and line the bottoms with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: Sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: Whisk sugar, eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla until smooth. Gradually mix in dry ingredients. Stir in hot water or coffee.
  4. Bake: Divide batter, bake for 30-35 minutes, then cool on wire racks.
  5. Make ganache: Heat cream, pour over chocolate, add butter, stir until smooth.
  6. Optional buttercream: Beat butter, mix in sugar, cocoa, cream, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
