Puff Pastry:

  • 1 package (2 sheets) frozen puff pastry, thawed

Vanilla Custard Filling:

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Additional:

  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Bake Puff Pastry: Unfold pastry sheets onto baking sheets, prick with fork, cover with parchment and another baking sheet, bake until golden and crisp. Cool completely.
  3. Prepare Custard: Warm milk in saucepan. Whisk sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks. Gradually add warm milk, cook until thickened. Stir in butter and vanilla. Chill for 1 hour.
  4. Assemble: Place custard on one pastry sheet, top with second sheet. Dust with powdered sugar. Chill before cutting into squares.
