Puff Pastry:
- 1 package (2 sheets) frozen puff pastry, thawed
Vanilla Custard Filling:
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 4 large egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
Additional:
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Bake Puff Pastry: Unfold pastry sheets onto baking sheets, prick with fork, cover with parchment and another baking sheet, bake until golden and crisp. Cool completely.
- Prepare Custard: Warm milk in saucepan. Whisk sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks. Gradually add warm milk, cook until thickened. Stir in butter and vanilla. Chill for 1 hour.
- Assemble: Place custard on one pastry sheet, top with second sheet. Dust with powdered sugar. Chill before cutting into squares.
