Description
These Nutella Cruffins combine the flaky layers of a croissant with the shape and convenience of a muffin for a delightful breakfast or dessert treat. Made with buttery puff pastry rolled with chocolate-hazelnut spread, cinnamon, and sugar, they bake up golden and crispy, then are lightly dusted with powdered sugar for a sweet finish.
Ingredients
Scale
Puff Pastry
- 1 package (about 17.3 oz or 500 g) thawed puff pastry
Filling & Topping
- 1/2 cup Nutella or any chocolate-hazelnut spread
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar, for dusting
Other
- Cooking spray or additional butter, for greasing the muffin tin
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pastry: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the thawed puff pastry into a large rectangle on a clean surface to ensure even thickness.
- Spread Nutella and Sprinkle Sugar Mixture: Spread Nutella evenly over the puff pastry, leaving a small border around the edges. In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon, then evenly sprinkle this mixture over the Nutella layer.
- Roll and Slice: Carefully roll the pastry tightly into a log shape, starting from one long edge. Once rolled, use a sharp knife to slice the log into 12 equal pieces.
- Arrange and Bake: Grease a muffin tin with cooking spray or butter. Place each sliced piece cut-side up into the muffin tin cups. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the cruffins are puffed up and golden brown.
- Cool and Dust: Remove the cruffins from the oven and let them cool for 5 minutes in the tin. Then transfer to a wire rack and dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
- Ensure the puff pastry is properly thawed before rolling for best results.
- You can substitute Nutella with any chocolate-hazelnut spread or even peanut butter for variation.
- If you prefer, brush the tops with melted butter before baking for extra crispness.
- Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.
- Store leftover cruffins in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, then reheat gently before serving.
